Remote sensors in banana cultivation

11/03/2022
The study presents a review of the use of remote sensors in agriculture, with an emphasis on their applications for banana cultivation (Musa AAA) in Costa Rica and other tropical regions. It evaluates three main areas: the delimitation of cultivated areas, the estimation of productivity, and the diagnosis of diseases. It analyzes the advantages of using satellite imagery, synthetic aperture radar (SAR), and drones (UAVs) in agricultural monitoring, highlighting their accuracy (up to 95%) in identifying plantations and detecting diseases such as black Sigatoka and Fusarium wilt. The study demonstrates the potential of these technologies to improve agricultural planning, environmental management, and phytosanitary prevention.
