Initiative 20x20: Restoring Latin America's Landscapes

Description

The 20x20 Initiative is a Latin American and Caribbean-led effort to halt land degradation and restore 50 million hectares of forests, agricultural lands, grasslands, and other landscapes by 2030. Launched in 2014 during COP 20 in Lima, it supports global commitments such as the Bonn Challenge and the New York Declaration on Forests. To date, 18 countries and 3 regional programs have pledged to restore more than 52 million hectares, with the support of over 85 technical organizations and an investor coalition that is mobilizing US$2.5 billion in private investment.
