National Program for the Restoration of Ecosystems and Landscapes (PREP) El Salvador

Fecha de inicio: 01/05/2012
Fecha de fin: N/A

Description

The Program focuses on components such as ecosystem and landscape restoration, focusing on areas such as mangroves, riparian forests and highly degraded regions, with the aim of mitigating the effects of climate change, reducing the vulnerability of the population and contributing to the conservation of biodiversity and carbon storage. In addition, it promotes the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices, including agroforestry, organic farming and agroecology, with the goal of transforming conventional practices that degrade soil and biodiversity towards more resilient and sustainable approaches. Additionally, the component of water resource management and regulation is included, with a special focus on the Lempa River basin, which is particularly vulnerable to climate change. This component seeks to improve water management to reduce the risk of flooding and ensure food security and the sustainability of agricultural production. Institutional strengthening and intersectoral coordination are also fundamental in the PREP, since it is intended to improve the capacity of State institutions to coordinate and work together with the local population in the implementation of the necessary actions. Furthermore, the programme focuses on mobilising financial resources, both national and international, to ensure the financing of the necessary investments in restoration and adaptation, ensuring the sustainability of the programme in the medium term.
