Learned lessons
Gained knowledge from implementing, evaluating, and managing a policy intervention, including why it was or was not effective and how it could be improved in the future.
Lesson Description Source
The relevance of focusing on poor rural areas ensures greater social impact. Intervention in communities living in poverty and extreme poverty in the highlands improved agricultural incomes and food security for vulnerable families. Link
The active participation of local governments and beneficiaries strengthens program management. The inclusion of subnational governments and users themselves in the execution of works and maintenance generated local ownership and inter-institutional synergies. Link
Community organization is key to sustainability The formation of irrigation and micro-watershed committees made it possible to maintain infrastructure and ensure the sustainable use of water resources. Link
International cooperation guarantees technical quality and sustainability JICA's financing and technical assistance provided expertise, international oversight, and confidence in the program's implementation. Link
Training ensures the permanence of benefits Training programs in field irrigation, water management, and maintenance strengthened local capacities to continue the efficient use of infrastructure Link
