A regional technical cooperation project (2017–2021) enhancing the productivity and competitiveness of avocado, passion fruit, and citrus value chains in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Innovations included fertigation, post-harvest shelf-life extension, biomass valorization, and circular economy approaches, resulting in significant yield increases and value-added products.

Observations

This regional initiative showcases how technological innovation can transform smallholder fruit systems in the Andes, aligning with sustainability and value chain policies. Through collaboration between academics, industry, and farmers, the project achieved notable gains in yield, quality, and value addition, while significantly enhancing technical dissemination across the region.
