Climate-Smart Livestock in Ecuador: A Strategic Partnership between FAO and the Private Sector

Description
Pilot project implemented in Cayambe, Pichincha Province, to strengthen the capacities of technicians and family livestock producers in Climate-Smart Livestock. The intervention adapted and validated participatory tools, identified good livestock practices, improved digital data collection and analysis, and estimated greenhouse gas emissions using tools such as ODK and GLEAM-R. It was developed by Ecuadorian public institutions, FAO, GEF, and the company El Ordeño.
Observations
The project was implemented from 1 February 2019 to 30 August 2019 with a total budget of USD 64,420. It directly benefited 50 family livestock producers and 15 technicians, with a potential reach of 1,000 milk suppliers to El Ordeño. The source also announces a 14-month second phase with a budget of USD 112,000 and a 64 percent company contribution; that phase is not included in this record.
