Anticipatory Action: Honduras Activation 2026

Start Date: 13/03/2026
End Date: 31/12/2027

Description

The initiative implements a coordinated package of anticipatory actions to reduce the humanitarian impacts of a forecast drought in five municipalities across the departments of El Paraíso and Francisco Morazán. The intervention comprises pre-agreed actions in food security, agriculture, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), health, and nutrition. These actions are activated through climate triggers based on seasonal precipitation forecasts and are supported by pre-arranged financing from the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), with the objective of protecting up to 65,000 people before the impacts of the drought materialize.

Observations

The initiative operationalizes the Anticipatory Action Framework for Drought in Honduras through the implementation of predefined actions triggered by climate-based activation thresholds and supported by pre-arranged CERF financing for the 2026–2027 period. Implementation is conditional upon the fulfillment of the activation thresholds established in the framework.
