SEGALMEX’s Price Guarantee Program for Staple Grains in Mexico’s Vulnerable Regions

Fecha de inicio: 2020
Fecha de fin: 2024

Description

The Guaranteed Price Program by SEGALMEX aims to improve the income of small and medium-scale producers of staple grains in vulnerable regions of Mexico. By setting minimum purchase prices for products such as maize, beans, wheat, rice, and milk, the program strengthens food self-sufficiency, reduces market uncertainty, and promotes social inclusion. It is implemented by SEGALMEX, with operational support from DICONSA and LICONSA, and is aligned with national rural development and social welfare policies.

Observations

Although the program has benefited thousands of producers, it faces criticism due to the geographic concentration of its operations and the lack of efficient oversight mechanisms, which may affect its transparency and the equitable distribution of benefits.
