End Date: 03/01/1997

Description

The Industrial Free Zone Development Project in the Dominican Republic provides long-term financing for infrastructure development and construction of factory shells in private industrial free zones, along with machinery acquisition for manufacturing companies. The project includes technical assistance components to strengthen institutional management capacities, streamline loan application review procedures, and improve understanding of the requirements for sector growth in an increasingly competitive trading environment. This investment has resulted in the creation of approximately 33,000 new jobs, primarily for low-income workers, and has increased net export earnings by approximately $52 million dollars annually.
