Description

As part of the Sectoral Plan of the Public Policy for the Agricultural Sector 2023-2027, this intervention aims to promote the assurance of seeds and genetic materials appropriate for the characteristics of agricultural production systems, in order to contribute to food security. The indicators associated with this objective include the operation of new plant breeding programs; the number of certified or authorized seed varieties available for sale, with a current base of eight varieties (six of beans: Cabecar, Brunca, Guaymí, Matambú, Nambí and Tayní, and two of corn: EJN-2 yellow and Diamantes 8843); the number of new crops for which certified seed is produced in the foundation or basic categories; and the number of official control activities to promote the use of high-quality seeds.
