Rural Supply Program (DICONSA) in Mexico

The main objective of the Program is to contribute to strengthening compliance with the social right to food. This is achieved by facilitating physical and economic access to food products, in order to improve food security for the population living in localities with food shortages. The program is designed to serve the population of localities with more than 200 inhabitants and who are in a situation of lack of access to food, which includes a total of 38,783 target localities nationwide. Among the beneficiaries of the program are people who live in marginalized communities, with limited access to basic products, and whose purchasing power is low due to their income levels. The program offers benefits through the distribution of Diconsa Basic Food Basket products at more affordable prices than local alternatives, providing a savings margin of at least 15% for the beneficiaries. Diconsa guarantees the supply of these products through a network of Community Stores and Mobile Stores, ensuring that these localities have access to quality food. Furthermore, the programme has an inclusive approach that seeks to ensure that women have equal access to benefits, respecting their rights and promoting their participation in community management. In terms of results, the programme has been designed to contribute to overcoming poverty through education, health, nutritious food, job and income generation, as well as social protection and the promotion of the social sector of the economy.
