Description
The main objective of the Program is to achieve food self-sufficiency in Mexico by increasing production and productivity in the agricultural, livestock, aquaculture and fishing sectors, in order to reduce dependence on imports and ensure the supply of basic foodstuffs. This program seeks to address the country's high food dependency, the exclusion of rural producers and agro-climatic risks, promoting sustainable production practices. It focuses on including historically excluded producers, such as small and medium producers, women, youth and indigenous people, in rural and coastal productive activities, taking advantage of the potential of local territories and markets. The strategic axes of the program include strengthening production through the use of innovative technologies and practices to improve the efficiency and sustainability of agricultural and livestock production, promoting gender equity and the inclusion of youth and indigenous people in agro-productive activities, and implementing strategies for climate risk management and the protection of biodiversity. The goals set by the program include achieving a food self-sufficiency coefficient of 80% by 2024, increasing the share of national production in national consumption, reducing the percentage of the rural population suffering from food shortages through productive inclusion and access to markets, and ensuring that 75% of small and medium-sized producers adopt sustainable practices by 2024. The program focuses on local development, the articulation of regionally differentiated policies, and the promotion of agroecological practices, thus ensuring food security and improved nutrition in Mexico.
