National Program to Strengthen and Support Beekeeping Production Under Criteria of Resilience to Climate Change

The national execution program prioritizes the Departments with productive potential Cochabamba, La Paz, Chuquisaca, Santa Cruz, Tarija and Potosí with the objective of strengthening and consolidating the beekeeping sector as an integrated and sustainable productive sector, guaranteeing the supply of products based on honey, with certified quality to supply the domestic market. The Program is framed in Supreme Decree No. 4632 and Law No. 144 of the Agricultural Community Productive Revolution, which provides for the promotion of production as a State Policy, within the framework of comprehensive sustainable rural development and food security with sovereignty; This program has a budget of Bs. 315.3 million for execution in the period 2022-2025. It seeks to increase average yields from 22.1 kg/hive/year to 28.7 kg/hive/year, also, increase the honey production volumes of 11,000 beekeepers in 55 municipalities, at 605 tons at the end of the fifth year of the program to cover national demand. The implementation of this program will help 8,000 producers reduce their losses due to pests and diseases in typical or regular years, seeking to reduce their incidence by at least 50%. Losses will be reduced from 27% to 14%, and with these actions, it is expected that unit production costs will be reduced by at least 20%, dropping to 25 Bs/kg of honey at the small producer level.
