Competitiveness and Sustainability of Intensive and Semi Intensive Dairy Systems in the Province of Chiriqui

Fecha de inicio: 31/12/2020
Fecha de fin: 31/12/2023

Description

The project focuses on improving the productivity and sustainability of bovine milk production systems through the implementation of innovative farm management and animal feeding strategies. It seeks to address current challenges in cattle production such as low reproductive and productive efficiency, calf health problems, and the need for more sustainable systems that minimize environmental impact. Through the adoption of legumes such as Arachis pintoi and Cratylia argentea for cattle feed, together with silvopastoral systems, the project proposes to improve cattle nutrition and soil health, reducing dependence on chemical inputs and promoting carbon sequestration. Expected outcomes include optimized nutritional formulations, effective feeding systems for different soil conditions, and recommendations on organic-chemical fertilization. Direct and indirect beneficiaries include small and medium-sized producers, families, extensionists, students and professors, thus contributing to the generation of local employment and the reduction of dairy product imports.
