Climate change and livestock: quantification and mitigation options for methane and nitrous oxide emissions from bovine origin under grazing conditions

Start Date: 12/03/2012
End Date: 12/03/2016

Description

The project focused on quantifying methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from grazing cattle and proposed mitigation strategies adapted to the characteristics of the participating countries. Emission factors were determined in extensive production systems, mitigation options were evaluated according to different diets in production systems, the mitigation effect of N2O in various types of pastures and through the use of nitrogen mineralization inhibitors was analyzed. and research capacities were strengthened in the countries involved.
