Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Strategy for the Canton of Esmeraldas

The Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Strategy for the Canton of Esmeraldas establishes technical guidelines to support the design and implementation of local policies and actions addressing climate change impacts. Its general objective is to design and implement integrated mitigation and adaptation policies, plans, and actions through active participation by local stakeholders, information generation and management, and intra- and inter-institutional coordination. The strategy seeks to limit greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen carbon sinks while reducing the social, economic, and environmental vulnerability of human and natural systems. It also promotes risk management and early warning systems, watershed and micro-watershed conservation, sustainable water management, climate information generation, public education and awareness, and the integration of climate change considerations into local territorial planning.
