Description

The Government of Mexico, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations signed the 2026-2031 Country Programming Framework. The instrument will guide the priorities, goals, and mechanisms for technical and financial cooperation between Mexico and FAO over six years, with the aim of advancing more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems. The Framework includes a programmatic portfolio of approximately 140 million dollars: about 54 million dollars already have identified funding, while an additional 86 million dollars must be mobilized through international cooperation, climate and environmental funds, national resources, development banks, and partnerships with the private sector. Its areas of work include productivity, nutrition, finance, technology, markets, public procurement, short supply chains, sustainable management of water, soils, forests and fisheries, social protection, gender equality, and productive inclusion. Its benefits are directed particularly toward small-scale producers, rural women, young people, agricultural workers, and Indigenous and Afro-Mexican peoples and communities.
