Mexico-Canada Agreements to Promote Agri-Food Trade with the Inclusion of Indigenous Peoples
Mexico and Canada agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation to diversify the agri-food supply, facilitate trade, improve business linkages, and preserve the integration of North American supply chains. The agreements prioritize opportunities for Indigenous Peoples and communities through trade in their products, the strengthening of productive capacities, and their integration into markets. The authorities also explored regulatory and technical cooperation strategies and exchanged experiences concerning territorial and community-based models, including Farmer Field Schools and Mexico's Sembrando Vida program. These actions contribute to the implementation of the Mexico-Canada Action Plan 2025-2028 and seek to promote fair, inclusive, and rules-based trade benefiting producers, businesses, and consumers in both countries.
Agreement for the Marketing of White Maize from the 2026 Spring-Summer Agricultural Cycle in Six Mexican States
The Government of Mexico, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, reached an agreement with trading companies, flour processors, and food-industry representatives to advance the marketing of the white maize harvest from the 2026 Spring-Summer agricultural cycle in Campeche, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Michoacan, Queretaro, and Tlaxcala. The agreement is part of the actions implemented through Mexico's White Maize Production and Marketing Coordination System and seeks to connect producers with purchasing companies, strengthen grain marketing, provide greater certainty to the value chain, and contribute to food sovereignty. The Ministry also announced that, in a second stage, the main producing states will have a support mechanism for fair and direct marketing, although the specific conditions of that mechanism are not defined in the communication.

Agricultural Policies for Food Security, Competitiveness and Sustainability in Mexico
This technical cooperation aims to strengthen the institutional capacities of the Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER) through the development and implementation of strategic tools and specialized instruments that increase the effectiveness of public policies oriented towards sectoral competitiveness and sustainability of the Mexican agricultural and fishing sector. The TC will support studies, methodologies and specialized consultancies that will strengthen the registry and program roster system, the agricultural and rural statistics system, including support in remote sensing methodologies and direct marketing models between small and medium producers. It will also finance the development of a Master Plan for Sustainable Development of Fishing, Aquaculture and Mariculture in the Peninsula and Gulf of California. The project seeks to address the structural challenges of the Mexican agricultural sector related to limited institutional capacities, fragmented information systems and barriers to the inclusion of small and medium producers. The initiative contributes directly to strengthening national food security through more effective and sustainable public policies.
