Rainfall deficits intensify across the region

FEWS NET seasonal monitoring report on agroclimatic conditions in Latin America and the Caribbean as of 31 July 2026. The report indicates that rainfall deficits affect much of the region before and during the canícula period and that dry conditions have intensified in parts of Venezuela and Colombia. In Central America, complications in crop development and reduced yields are reported in areas with lower rainfall. During July, temperature anomalies exceeded 3 °C above the historical average in some areas, reducing moisture availability for staple grain crops. The forecast anticipates below-average rainfall and above-average temperatures in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and parts of Venezuela and Colombia, with possible yield reductions and planting delays.
