Research brief: Challenges and opportunities for Honduran coffee in light of the European Union's zero deforestation policy

This research brief explores the challenges and opportunities facing the Honduran coffee sector in complying with the European Union's Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which seeks to eradicate deforestation in supply chains, including coffee. Through interviews with key stakeholders, barriers such as the lack of traceability tools, institutional misalignment, and uncertainty about EUDR requirements are identified. However, opportunities to strengthen cooperatives, develop traceability technologies, and foster public-private collaboration are also highlighted, which will enable a successful transition to sustainable practices in coffee production.
