Energy transition and decarbonization in Latin America and the Caribbean in energy-intensive industries

This report analyzes the strategies, policies, and obstacles facing Latin America and the Caribbean in decarbonizing their industrial sector, with an emphasis on the cement, steel, and chemical industries due to their high energy and emissions intensity. In 2019, the region's industrial sector emitted approximately 240 million tons of CO₂—equivalent to 15% of total direct emissions—and the most energy-intensive industries accounted for more than 90% of those emissions.
