This scientific article presents a comprehensive review of evidence generated by the HarvestPlus program on biofortification as a strategy to address micronutrient deficiencies globally. The document analyzes results from 13 years of research and implementation of biofortified crops that have demonstrated measurable improvements in human health and nutrition. It presents evidence of nutritional efficacy, delivery experiences in target countries, and the development of more than 150 biofortified varieties of 10 crops released in 30 countries. The article documents how more than 20 million people in farm households are growing and consuming biofortified crops. It proposes an action-oriented agenda to scale biofortification globally with the goal of reaching one billion people by 2030.
