Description
Since 2008, ECLAC has collaborated with the Government of Honduras on the "Economics of Climate Change in Central America" (ECC CA) initiative, with the aim of highlighting the impacts of climate variability and change and fostering discussion on public policies in key sectors.
Multisectoral analyses conducted with the collaboration of technical teams of officials and experts from the region have highlighted the high vulnerability to climate change in Central America, and Honduras in particular. Discussions among partners on public policy responses generated proposals to prioritize climate change adaptation, explicitly promoting co-benefits for sustainability and social inclusion, and coordinating with vulnerability and poverty reduction programs. Within this framework of priorities, the transition to environmentally sustainable economies with low greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is essential.
Climate change requires greater attention to public and intergenerational goods and services, such as climate, water resources, ecosystems, food and nutrition security, energy security, and public transportation. Given the multisectoral impact of this phenomenon and the need for greater coordination between institutions in the response, the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda provide us with a valuable framework.
