The policy brief urges policymakers and public officials to take proactive measures to prevent the entry of TR4 and protect the banana and plantain industry in producing and exporting countries in the region. The creation of a Technical Working Group by the Caribbean Plant Health Directors (CPHD TWG-Musa Species) is highlighted, which acts as an emergency mechanism to lead and coordinate actions at the regional and international level. The group works to strengthen biosecurity at ports, increase national surveillance, and train farmers and customs officials in biosecurity measures. Additionally, it focuses on research into TR4-tolerant or resistant varieties and establishing capabilities for the safe introduction of certified TR4-resistant germplasm.
