Project Improvement of Income for Family, Peasant, and Indigenous Agriculture in Departments of the Eastern Region of Paraguay (PROMAFI)

The main objective of the Project is to contribute to the sustainable reduction of poverty in the vulnerable rural population, increasing income in a sustainable manner by strengthening social capital, productivity and adaptation to climate change. This aims to consolidate small producer organizations, help them use productive assets to increase production and marketing in a sustainable manner and adapted to climate change, and provide them with access to appropriate financial services. To achieve these objectives, the project is structured into four main components. The first component is the strengthening of the organizations, which includes the training of rural representatives chosen by the organizations to lead the participatory strengthening process. The second component focuses on sustainable productive development. In this component, cash transfers and investment support services are provided at the level of rural organizations through business plans and community development plans. The third component focuses on rural financial services. The capacity of rural organizations to finance their operating capital needs is strengthened through credit from intermediary financial institutions, and a guarantee trust is created to grant guarantee certificates to rural organizations. In addition, training courses on rural financial education are offered to borrowers. The fourth component is project management. A project delivery unit is established in the region, with a management team responsible for overall execution and contact with the target group and local authorities.
