Implementation of the CARIFORUM Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) Commitments and in Reaping its Benefits to Comply with SPS Measures in the Caribbean

The 11th EDF project will assist CARIFORUM States in advancing the implementation of their Economic Partnership Agreement. The project will address key constraints affecting countries' ability to comply with SPS measures, including a weak legislative framework, multiple jurisdictions, inadequate enforcement of SPS controls, and limited human resources. Project actions will seek to strengthen SPS systems to improve market access and international trade. The beneficiaries of the project are public and private sector stakeholders along the selected value chains. The overall objective of the project is to increase compliance by CARIFORUM states with international SPS measures, standards and procedures to increase access to international and regional markets. And seeks to address this through the following specific objectives: Strengthen the development of the sanitary and phytosanitary regulatory environment; Strengthen the capacity of the public and private sector to comply with sanitary and phytosanitary measures; Strengthen the sanitary and phytosanitary capacity of the fisheries subsector; Strengthen the capacity of the public and private sector to comply with sanitary and phytosanitary measures. At the end, the following results are expected to be achieved: Strengthened sanitary and phytosanitary regulatory environment in CARIFORUM; Strengthened capacity of public and private sector stakeholders on sanitary and phytosanitary measures; Strengthened sanitary and phytosanitary controls in the fisheries subsector; Strengthened capacity of public and private sector stakeholders to comply with sanitary and phytosanitary measures; Strengthened sanitary and phytosanitary controls in the fisheries subsector.
