Regional Control Platform for Bovine Leukosis

Fecha de inicio: 01/01/2019
Fecha de fin: 01/01/2019

Description

This initiative promotes the establishment of a regional control platform for bovine leukosis, a disease that induces fatal tumors in cattle. The overarching aim of the proposal is to aggregate current knowledge regarding enzootic bovine leukosis in countries across Latin America and the Caribbean, and to analyze scenarios pertaining to health prophylaxis, control, or treatment, contingent upon the underlying epidemiological situation in each country. This platform will contribute to enhancing the health status of cattle herds in the region, consequently bolstering their improved positioning as suppliers of products that can access a wider array of commercial markets. An additional potential positive collateral effect is the favorable perception that countries would garner in the realm of public health. Dairy and meat products would be introduced to the market with added value attributed to their “leukosis-free” quality within a societal context marked by increasing demands for food safety, concurrent with recent reports suggesting that the consumption of beef or bovine milk from herds with leukosis poses a threat to public health.
