Fisheries and Aquaculture Promotion Program in Honduras (SAG)

The Fisheries and Aquaculture Promotion Program is responsible for governing the fishing and aquaculture subsector in order to optimize economic and social benefits, promote competitiveness and sustainability in the utilization and protection of marine-coastal and freshwater ecosystems. Among the actions of this program, the following stand out: a) Issuance of operation permits to producers and marketers in the sector, enabling them to legally engage in activities such as artisanal fishing, sport fishing, industrial fishing, fishing divers, advanced artisanal vessels, captains, crew members, salaried workers, and various types of commercial establishments (retailers, wholesalers, supermarkets, restaurants), among others. b) Fishing licenses, special permits granted to artisanal and industrial fishermen, as well as business owners, allowing them to carry out specific activities such as the extraction of lobster, shrimp, snail, scale fish, broodstock, and diving fishing gear. c) Reports on the assessment of the volume of commercially valuable marine species such as sea cucumber and giant snail. d) Training in fishing regulations, among others.
