Description

The National Service of Agricultural Health and Food Safety (SENASA) is responsible for certifying agro-sanitary and food safety processes. It plans, regulates, implements, and supervises sanitary and phytosanitary measures to safeguard the national agricultural heritage for the benefit of the country's productive sectors and human well-being. SENASA carries out its work through three main programs: a) Animal Health Program: This program is responsible for exercising sanitary control over the stages of animal industry development nationwide in order to prevent, control, and eradicate diseases that may affect it. It also includes certification of the quality of exports and imports. b) Plant Health Program: This program encompasses the regulation of plant health, production, processing, marketing, and certification of organic agricultural products, as well as the establishment of mechanisms for phytosanitary protection and prevention. c) Food Safety: This program aims to ensure that production units implement agri-food safety systems.
