Reducing climate vulnerability and emissions through sustainable livelihoods

Fecha de inicio: 29/12/2021
Fecha de fin: 31/12/2030

Description

The Project focuses on reducing climate vulnerability and emissions by promoting sustainable livelihoods in the Balsas Basin of Mexico. It is implemented by the National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR), with funding from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The project seeks to increase the productive capacity and market participation of rural and indigenous families, especially women and youth, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This is achieved through the promotion of resilient and sustainable productive systems, thereby improving local livelihoods. It is divided into two main components: The first component is capacity building, which includes the participatory formulation of Micro-basin Ecological Management Plans (POEM) and Comprehensive Development Plans (PDI) for territorial governance and climate change mitigation and adaptation. The second component is investment for adaptive ecosystem management, which seeks to strengthen productive systems and develop resilient value chains. Actions include community forest management, the creation of forest plantations and the restoration of micro-watersheds.
