Observations

The source documents an initial BRL 1,800,000,000 allocation for programme actions in 2003: BRL 1,200,000,000 for financial assistance to purchase food, BRL 400,000,000 for procurement from family farmers, and BRL 200,000,000 for other actions, including food education and municipal programmes. Conversion: BRL 1,800,000,000 / 3.5258 BRL per USD = USD 510,522,434.62. The PTAX rate for 2 January 2003, the first business day of the year, was used. This amount represents only the documented initial 2003 allocation and not the cumulative cost of all programmes subsequently included in Fome Zero. The source does not establish a formal end date.
