Golden Yolk Project to Increase Domestic Egg Production

Start Date: 04/12/2024
End Date: N/A

Description

Public initiative in The Bahamas aimed at increasing domestic egg production, reducing dependence on imports and strengthening food security. As of 5 October 2026, the project had produced 200,000 eggs, had 10,000 laying hens in production and was raising approximately 8,000 pullets to expand future capacity. The intervention includes infrastructure for egg production and processing, including pullet facilities, layer houses and processing capacity. The Government seeks to establish a consistent supply of Bahamian-produced eggs for households and businesses, retain a larger share of food expenditure within the national economy and expand opportunities for farmers and agricultural businesses.

Observations

Aggregate budget used: B$14,250,000, identified as the total project cost of the Golden Yolk Project - Egg Production in Annex 16 of The Bahamas 2024/2025 budget estimates. The project start date stated in that annex is 4 December 2024. The amount was converted using an exchange rate of B$1.00 per USD 1.00, based on the fixed parity published by the Central Bank of The Bahamas. The principal source does not provide an end date. Annual allocations were not loaded because subsequent budget documents contain figures for components or revised allocations that require manual reconciliation.
