Supporting Communities to Sustainably Manage Forests in Guatemala

Fecha de inicio: 2018
Fecha de fin: N/A

Description

In Guatemala's Petén region, where the Maya Biosphere Reserve has faced decades of deforestation, the Forestry and Climate Change Fund (FCCF) and the Nature for Life Foundation (NPV) are collaborating to restore degraded forests and generate sustainable income for local communities. Through community concessions managed under FSC standards, the project promotes the responsible use of forest resources, starting with 600 hectares and planning to expand to more landowners and territories. The initiative offers economic alternatives to clear-cutting and agricultural expansion, strengthening local identities and creating jobs in forest management and wood processing. By promoting productive and well-managed forests, it contributes to both the well-being of Petén families and the achievement of Guatemala's climate goals.
