Greenhouses 2.0: Technology and innovation adoption for small agricultural producers in El Salvador

Start Date: 22/10/2021
End Date: 29/10/2025

Description

Pilot project implemented by the "Canasta Campesina" Cooperative with BID Lab funding that seeks to make production, quality and market processes more efficient through precision agriculture and data management for small agricultural producers. The project addresses the problem of low agricultural technification in El Salvador, post-harvest losses and high dependence on vegetable imports exceeding $100 million annually. It focuses on three main axes: precision agriculture and climate change resilience, value chain innovations to improve market connection, and model packaging and scalability. The project initially benefits more than 100 farmers from the cooperative (75% women) with projection to scale to 6 national cooperatives and impact more than 2,000 producers through ANPECOES. It promotes women's empowerment in the agricultural sector and the adoption of innovative technologies to strengthen food security.
