(Es) (Ecuador) Maps and indicators of food sovereignty in Ecuador

Since June 2023, COPISA has been working with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), through the General Coordination of National Agricultural Information (CGINA), to generate cartographic models that allow for the spatialization of food sovereignty variables and strengthen the studies carried out in the country regarding the area designated for food sovereignty through coordinated work. In this regard, national and regional maps of the "Agricultural and Livestock Area Destined for Food Sovereignty in Ecuador" were generated, using the "positive discrimination" methodology of official information from different institutions and thematic units such as: i) areas under conservation ii) areas dedicated to agricultural exports and iii) Infrastructure, areas without vegetation cover and bodies of water. Additionally, a country indicator of food sovereignty has been constructed with this information.
