Association of Organic Coffee Producers of the Sierra Nevada (Asoprocafé) – Colombia

Asoprocafé is an organization made up of 44 families in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta who produce organic coffee on 270 hectares located between 1,000 and 1,800 meters above sea level (Asoprocafé, n.d.). The positioning of their organic export coffee brand, “La Chimilla”, has been supported by the company ISA through Conexión Desarrollo, its social management model. “With the flavor and aroma of nature” is the slogan of Chimila, which highlights the essence of a coffee proud of its quality and sustainable origin. Through dialogue with producers, marketing channels have been diversified and training sessions on coffee cupping and physical analysis have been supported. Thanks to these initiatives, in Chimila (Cesar), coffee producers have become experts capable of evaluating the quality and type of their coffee and setting fair prices in relation to the market. This has allowed them to connect with the global export chain, promoting both acquisition and consumption (Bibo, 2023). With ISA’s support, Asoprocafé received the sanitary notification granting them the permit to export Chimilla coffee, which is now reaching Belgium, Germany, France, and Austria.
