Ecosystem Service Remuneration Mechanisms (ESRM) in Peru

These instruments allow for the promotion, channelling and investment in actions aimed at the conservation, recovery and sustainable use of ecosystems, considered sources of ecosystem services, through voluntary agreements between contributors and payers. A contributor to ecosystem services is defined as any natural or legal person, public or private, who through technically and environmentally viable actions contributes to the conservation, recovery and sustainable use of ecosystem services. An ecosystem service payer is any natural or legal person, public or private, who, upon obtaining an economic, social or environmental benefit, compensates contributors for the ecosystem services provided.
