Law No. 30215, known as the Law on Mechanisms for Ecosystem Services Compensation (MERESE), regulates and promotes voluntary agreements to conserve, recover and sustainably use ecosystems. Its main objectives are:

- Develop technologies and strengthen capacities for their protection
- Regulate and supervise mechanisms for compensation for ecosystem services
MERESE are a key tool to encourage conservation through economic compensation. The value of the compensation is determined according to the value of the ecosystem services, the associated costs and other agreed factors. The Ministry of the Environment manages the Single Registry of these mechanisms.
