Start Date: 28/04/2023
End Date: 28/04/2028

Description

The project aims to integrate biodiversity into rural landscapes in Mexico by implementing sustainable policies and practices in the agricultural sector. Specific objectives include increasing the area of rural landscapes under sustainable practices that benefit biodiversity, restoring degraded agricultural lands, and increasing access of producer organizations to responsible markets. To achieve these objectives, the project implements the incorporation of biodiversity criteria into agricultural sector policies and regulations, the development of land use plans and agricultural extension programs that promote sustainability, and the creation of financial mechanisms that include biodiversity criteria to support sustainable agricultural practices. In addition, the project seeks to strengthen the capacity of local actors to make informed decisions about sustainable land use and biodiversity conservation, thus ensuring that environmental and economic benefits are maintained in the long term.
