Expansion of climate resilience measures in agroecosystems in the dry corridor of El Salvador (RECLIMA)

The project's main objective is to improve the resilience of small family farmers vulnerable to the effects of climate change in El Salvador. Currently, a series of integrated activities are being implemented at the landscape level to improve agricultural production, ensure water supply through rainwater harvesting and storage, and restore degraded ecosystems that are crucial for the provision of environmental services. These activities include promoting climate-resilient agricultural practices, improving water management on farms, and strengthening human and institutional capacities to ensure sustainability and scale-up of adaptation strategies. The project directly benefits approximately 225,000 people on 50,000 family farms, covering 56,600 hectares of agricultural production systems and the restoration of 17,333 hectares of degraded ecosystems. Furthermore, the project promotes a paradigm shift in agroecosystem-based climate change adaptation, focusing on activities such as restoring vegetation cover in critical locations to promote hydrological services and increase carbon stocks. Efforts are underway to improve governance and information flow, supporting the sustainability and scaling up of adaptation measures. This includes strengthening local planning and governance structures, adapting regulatory and policy instruments, and improving access to reliable and relevant information to guide the formulation and medium-term planning of adaptation measures.
