Strengthening synergies for sanitary and phytosanitary management in the Andean Community

Fecha de inicio: 01/01/2024
Fecha de fin: 31/12/2026

Description

The project aims to improve the capacities of member countries in the management of sanitary and phytosanitary risks, in order to facilitate access and maintenance of their products in international agricultural markets. This effort arises from the growing need to face challenges and take advantage of opportunities in a context of globalization and interdependence between markets. To achieve this objective, the project seeks to strengthen the capacities of the health authorities of the Andean countries through the specific training of at least twenty officials in the management of sanitary alerts, thus ensuring an effective response to possible alerts. In addition, the establishment of a regional procedure approved by the Andean Technical Committee on Agricultural Health (COTASA) is proposed, designed for the prevention, management and control of residues and contaminants in agricultural foods. The project also includes training officials in international sanitary and phytosanitary standards, as well as the functioning of international organizations such as the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), the World Organization for Animal Health (WHO) and the Codex Alimentarius, with the aim of formulating unified regional positions. This project focuses on the exchange of experiences, strengthening cooperation between authorities and compliance with the sanitary and phytosanitary requirements demanded by international markets.
