Sustainable Development Policy Project in the Dominican Republic

Fecha de inicio: 07/06/2024
Fecha de fin: 31/12/2025

Description

The project's main objectives are to reduce pollution and strengthen institutional and financial capacity for the protection of natural resources. In terms of pollution reduction, regulations will be established to control discharges into surface and coastal waters. In addition, an Integrated Marine Waste Management Plan will be implemented and electrical and electronic waste will be regulated. To strengthen institutional and financial capacity, the project envisages improving the response to the sargassum crisis, the management of dredging and land extraction, and providing a robust framework for the issuance of sustainable development bonds. The project's outcome indicators include compliance with new regulations by public and private sector companies, the implementation of improved marine waste prevention practices in municipalities, access to clean water for households headed by women, and the integrated management of electrical and electronic waste. The protection of coastal and freshwater ecosystems is vital for economic sectors such as tourism and fisheries, and for climate resilience and climate change mitigation.
