National Groundwater Well Drilling Program - Our Well

The Program seeks to improve access to water in rural and semi-arid areas of the country. Its main objective is to guarantee the availability of water for food security, especially in areas affected by drought. The entity responsible for the execution of the program is the Well Execution Unit (UE-Pozos), which operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Rural Development and Lands. The UE-Wells has administrative, financial, legal and technical independence, and is responsible for the drilling, rehabilitation, and maintenance of wells, as well as the coordination with autonomous territorial entities for the implementation and maintenance of groundwater collection infrastructure. . The program has been designed to address drought emergencies and improve the country's water infrastructure. To ensure its continuity and expansion, Supreme Decree No. 4561, issued on August 2, 2021, authorized the transfer of resources from the General Treasury of the Nation to the Ministry of Rural Development and Lands to finance the program during the 2021 to 2025 administrations. The allocated funds, which amount to Bs235,721,602, are intended to cover the investment expenses necessary for the construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of the wells. This financing also includes consultancies to ensure the proper implementation of the projects and the continuous supervision of the works.
