National School Feeding Program

The main objective of the National School Feeding Program (PNAE) in Brazil is to contribute to the growth, biopsychosocial development, learning, academic performance and formation of healthy eating habits of public basic education students. This program integrates food education into the school curriculum, promotes the use of varied, safe and culturally appropriate foods, and guarantees universal food assistance. Support for sustainable development is highlighted through the acquisition of at least 30% of food directly from family farming, rural entrepreneurs and indigenous and quilombola communities, without the need for bidding. The financial resources of the PNAE, automatically transferred by the FNDE, must be used exclusively for the purchase of food and are subject to strict control and accountability mechanisms. Supervision includes audits and the participation of the School Feeding Councils (CAE), ensuring food quality and safety for all students.
