Implementing climate goals in Costa Rica and promoting regional knowledge transfer

Start Date: 01/05/2021
End Date: 30/04/2026

Description

The project focuses on knowledge transfer and implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) for climate change. The project works on five main components: coordination and cooperation on climate policies, climate financing, climate protection at the local level, a regional NDC hub and an IKI interface for Central America and the Caribbean. The objective is to strengthen institutional capacities for integrated climate protection strategies and policies in Costa Rica, including collaboration with civil society actors and the private sector. The implementation of ambitious projects is promoted to comply with the NDC and financing modalities are developed with the private sector, as well as fiscal and green reforms and monitoring mechanisms. At the local level, cooperation between municipalities and the private sector is improved to develop and implement climate protection measures in key sectors such as waste management and transport. Additionally, the project acts as a connection point for knowledge management and coordinated advice between projects funded by the IKI Initiative in Central America and the Caribbean.
