Technological Alternatives and Biocontrol Strategies Applied to Highland Horticultural Production Systems

Fecha de inicio: 31/12/2020
Fecha de fin: 31/12/2023

Description

The project in Tierras Altas, Chiriquí, seeks to strengthen the productivity and sustainability of horticultural agriculture through the development of biocontrol technologies and innovative strategies that minimize the use of synthetic pesticides, in line with food sovereignty and environmental responsibility objectives. This approach includes microencapsulation of beneficial organisms, use of pheromones for pest control, and validation of entomopathogenic nematodes and organic fertilizers to improve yields and control gastropods. It is expected to create stable formulations of nematodes and entomopathogenic fungi, identify key pathogens by crop, and validate effective pheromones and organic fertilizers for different vegetable crops. Results will be disseminated through field days, publications, and workshops, directly involving local producers and technicians. Benefiting 250 growers directly and a broad spectrum of agricultural stakeholders, this project has the potential to significantly improve horticultural production in the region, positively impacting quality of life and environmental health.
