Research and innovation to strengthen sheep and goat value chains in Panama

Fecha de inicio: N/A
Fecha de fin: N/A

Description

The project aims to strengthen the sheep-goat value chains in Panama by incorporating technological innovations and expanding production linkages, identifying and addressing key problems such as independence among actors and inbreeding in small herds. National production currently covers only 30% of the demand for sheep meat and goat milk, which underscores the need to increase local production capacity through improved practices, including the selection of breeders with high genetic potential for artificial insemination programs and the development of nutritional concentrates. In addition, a strategic management program will be implemented to control gastrointestinal parasites and an integrated system for sheep production that includes training and an agroforestry component. A protocol for milking and handling goat milk will also be developed to ensure quality and safety in agroindustrial processing plants. This effort will directly benefit a significant percentage of producers in key regions and, indirectly, consumers and other actors in the production chain at the national level.Genetic variability of Magnaporthe oryzae in rice cultivars in Panama.
