Fecha de inicio: 02/05/2022

Description

The Unleashing the Blue Economy of the Caribbean project includes a Contingent Emergency Response Component (CERC) that addresses the food insecurity crisis in participating countries, supporting key sectors such as agriculture and livestock. Within the CERC-funded interventions, priority activities have been selected that cover crop production, which includes the cultivation of fruits, vegetables and tubers along with the provision of climate-adapted agricultural inputs such as seeds and fertilizers, and support to agricultural mechanization and propagation facilities such as greenhouses. In addition, livestock production is being improved through the installation of artificial insemination facilities, importation of small ruminants, and supply of food, tools, and equipment, accompanied by training and improvements in animal health. In the fishing sector, the project includes the implementation of Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs), improvements in sanitary and phytosanitary conditions, improvements in cold chain infrastructure, and improvements in safety regimes at sea. These activities are aimed at improving local food production and strengthening the resilience of local food systems in the face of supply chain disruptions and food price inflation.
