Protection of the Trifinio Fraternidad Transboundary Biosphere Reserve

The Trifinio Fraternidad Transboundary Biosphere Reserve Protection Project is developed in financial collaboration between the government of Germany, through KfW, and the Trinational Commission of the Trifinio Plan of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, with a total financing of 14.34 millions of euros. The main objective of the project is to clarify and record the land tenure situation in the Reserve to optimize the management of protected areas, the conservation of biodiversity and the sustainable use of natural resources. The project, which began on October 1, 2020 and will extend until 2027, operates in a region that covers 33 municipalities and 313,393 hectares, including 11 protected areas and 6 biological corridors. Among its achievements are the improvement in the management of protected areas, equipment and structure for control, surveillance and attention, in addition to the promotion of sustainable production practices that are resilient to climate change among local farmers.
