Promoting Water Security in the Trifinio Region

Start Date: 01/01/2022
End Date: 31/12/2025

Description

The project aims to improve the living conditions of women in El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It focuses on trinational cooperation for integrated water management in the trinational basin of the Lempa River, covering Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala. Its focus includes strengthening national and regional institutions, increasing their capacity to manage water security and associated ecosystem challenges, and promoting awareness on the sustainable management of transboundary natural resources, such as water, soil, forests and biodiversity. The project consists of components such as: improving knowledge about the different uses of transboundary water resources and the environmental threats facing the Lempa River basin; strengthen governance in water resources management; demonstrate the feasibility and cost efficiency of innovative solutions in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM); and establish water resources monitoring programs that facilitate IWRM decision-making and promote the exchange of information. With these efforts, the project seeks not only to improve the environmental conditions of the region, but also to ensure a more sustainable and equitable future for women in these communities.
